AESTURA just turned out to be the perfect brand to meet this demand! This is an Amore Pacific brand, so it belongs to the same big conglomerate which also houses Laneige, IOPE and Sulwhasoo. It is marketed as a derma or even “clinical” brand comparable to European pharmacy brands. Indeed, you usually find AESTURA products right next to Bioderma, Avène and co. at Olive Young stores. Its melting texture is really super pleasant, and it’s a real treat to apply it on my skin in the morning. It is fresh but still very repairing and nourishing. There has been some healthy controversy surrounding them due to a few studies finding paraben presence in breast tumours and breast tissue. However, the majority of the scientific community have deemed these findings non-conclusive due to the limitations of these studies.

The source of squalane may impact malassezia / fungal acne. This is because olive oil derived squalane can contain impurities such as fatty acids and plant waxes. Sugarcane derived squalane is recommended for anyone with malassezia concerns. Because the Aestura Atobarrier 365 Hydro Soothing Cream is not a classic, super watery, fresh and thirst-quenching gel-cream. Here, the skin barrier is repaired with heavy-duty ingredients that effectively replenish the inter-cellular cement (but there’s a secret in the formula that allows you to do this without having a greasy texture, you’ll see 😉 ).The Atobarrier 365 line is formulated for people with a damaged or compromised skin barrier, focusing on repairing, nourishing and protecting the skin. AESTURA actually started as a clinical skincare company in the 1980s, and Amore Pacific bought the company so that they could use their patented “dermaON” technology for their products. Basically, this is a special type of encapsulation technology used for the Atobarrier 365 Cream, which creates tiny oil capsules within the formula. Additionally, products that may contain ingredients that have shown to feed Malassezia may not neccessarily exacerbate the condition due to concentration of ingredient used in the product, this information is simply not available on the products. This depends on the source. Squalane can be derived from both plants and animals. Most squalane used in skincare comes from plants. It is thanks to this encapsulation of the richest ingredients that this cream can be so effective without being too rich. And that’s quite an achievement! The heat and humidity coupled with the air conditioning are usually devastating for my skin. But this product really helped me to stay comfortable all day long without my skin feeling “suffocated” by a too heavy texture.

the brand also highlights trehalose, a very interesting humectant sugar to deeply moisturize the skin, So, I was a bit unsure if this moisturiser would work for my combo skin, since it is advertised as a rich, deeply nourishing cream. At 44, I don’t get as oily as I used to anymore, and in winter I now crave richer textures than when I was young. However, I still need to be a bit careful about breaking out from oil-heavy skincare, and so I was a little bit hesitant before my first use. The EU Allergen Free label is for the 26 ingredients identified by the EU SCCS and products will be only flagged if a suspected ingredient is on it's ingredient list. It is possible for cosmetics to contain one of the suspect ingredients without it appearing on the ingredient list due to it not reaching the concentration threshold to disclose it and cosmetic manufacturers choice to not disclose it.
